It's the time of the year for harvesting honey, putting it in jars and offering it at the Winneshiek Farmer's Market. Mitchell Phillips (pictured in the photo on the table) got interested in the hard working insects when he was encouraged to go to a 4-H lecture years ago. He didn't really want to go, but did. The talk that evening was about bees and he's been intrigued ever since. He now cares for 12 beehives on his grandmother's farm just north of Spillville. He is a full time finance and real estate major at the University of Northern Iowa, in Cedar Falls, so his mother, Patty Phillips, helps him out at the booth at the farmers market. She is pictured below with the plentiful harvest from Mitchell's hives.
